Josh Ornelas

St. Anthony High School
Director Technology
Long Beach, California
As long as he can remember, Josh Ornelas has had a deep love and understanding of technology. After working for FOX Sports, he began taking what he learned in the television industry and implementing it with friends and co-workers who were teaching. Mr. Ornelas worked at St. Joseph High School as the Director of Technology before making the move to St. Anthony High School in 2012.

St. Anthony High School was in its first year of implementation of a new iPad Program, so based on a recommendation from Apple and their dedication to education, Mr. Ornelas made the move. During his time at St. Anthony, Mr. Ornelas put his passion and hands-on experience into action, leading the school as they continue to take the 1 to 1 iPad Program to new heights. Currently St. Anthony High School is the only high school in the Los Angeles Archdiocese to house all student textbooks on iPads.

In addition to heading up ongoing teacher technology training and support and serving as the day to day contact for students and parents, Mr. Ornelas is the moderator for the student technology club, also known as the I-Paduans. I-Paduans learn practical applications that allow them to make the most of their studies, while building skills that will propel them to excellence in any career that they choose to make their own. As the I-Paduans’ moderator, Mr. Ornelas welcomes the opportunity to interact with, learn with and develop new ideas with students and teachers.

Another role that Mr. Ornelas truly enjoys is his work with other local schools in support of technology and education. Mr. Ornelas regularly serves as a trusted community partner and technology expert, facilitating training sessions and advising other schools about how to successfully move their school forward on a solid technological base to support learning.

Mr. Ornelas earned a Bachelor Degree in History from California State University Fullerton. He will complete his first Master’s Program in May 2015 and plans to begin a second Master’s program in the fall of 2015 with a concentration on Information and Technology Systems. Mr. Ornelas feels blessed to be able to live by his motto here at St. Anthony High School, “Do what you love, and love what you do”.
